The Rakkasans Association and our Chapter began in 1982 with former paratroopers of the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team who served in Korea from 1950-1953.  We are a part of the national Rakkasan Association, which boasts 24 Chapters throughout the United States.  Our Chapter, Angels Over Hell, is one of five Chapters in the State of California; we are the only chapter in Northern California.

Our ranks are beginning to be joined by younger Rakkasans, veterans of Vietnam, Panama, Desert Storm, Afghanistan and Iraq.  All Rakkasans who were or presently are members of the following units are welcome to join us as members continuing the Airborne brotherhood:

•combat with the 187th Glider Infantry Regiment in the Philippines in 1943,

•187th Airborne Infantry paratroops in occupation of Japan,

•187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team in Korea,

•187th Infantry Regiment, Air Assault, of the Third Brigade 101st Airborne Division/Air Assault of Viet Nam and Desert Storm, and

•now  in Afghanistan and Iraq.

All Rakksans are welcome to be our guests at a meeting as introduction to our chapter, and to join our national Rakkasan Association, and our own Angels Over Hell Chapter.

New item:  Our Stories

At the last Chapter meeting Members wives were asked to write about their husbands experience or ‘life as a paratrooper’. This is the first, I hope, of many stories. Teresa Herrera tells the story of her husband, Angel ‘Lucky’ Herrera who wanted to be like his brothers and the pride he had in serving his country.Our_Stories.html
